Eureka! DD-WRT

I've been working for tech support for four years now, I know more than the basic troubleshooting for almost any kind of gadget (given that I do read the manual and have been exposed to a lot of these gadgets).

I bet you have heard of Linksys or Cisco, and not many may have heard about DD-WRT. For me, I kinda heard that DD-WRT adds more feautures for a router, but you run the risk of losing the warranty and bricking the router eventually. For me, it is too much of a hassle to even think about.

If you need WiFi, buy a wireless router, you might need to read a little quick setup guide, setup it up (generally it is as easy as counting 1-2-3 or singing you ABC), and you're up and running (unless you did not read the manual or you're lucky to enaough to get a lemon). And that is what I did.

As the say, "Necessity is the mother of invention" and let me rephrase that to be more appropriate for our time, "Necessity stimulates innovation".

I have a wireless network at home, I'm happy with it since I can bring my laptop and PSP to most places in the house. Let me emphasize MOST! Not all. There are parts that have low or no signal at all.

I wanted to find a solution since I just found out that I need wireless connection upstairs, I know that I have to spend again to buy for newer technology wireless gadgets that offer broader range. I have a boxed wireless access point, used it for quite a while with my wired router before I got my wireless. Boxed = No use.

But as all good things in life are free, come DD-WRT! This firmware can enable the router and my Boxed wireless access point to communicate and extend my wireless network range! Truly marvelous, amazing! and best of all, it's FREE!

Well this might sound gibberish if you don't need it, but if you have the same problem that I have, it feels like winning the lottery.
